Pauline Richard has called Singapore home for nearly five years now—but her story starts in France. After completing her undergraduate studies at ESSEC Business School’s Asia-Pacific campus as part of the Global Bachelor of Business Administration program, she seized the opportunity to expand her horizons with a double degree at the University of South Carolina. The Responsible International Leadership program not only deepened her global exposure but also sparked an enduring interest in business strategy.
Now back at ESSEC Asia-Pacific as a Master in Strategy and International Business (SMIB) student, Pauline is leveraging her international education and prior work experience to build a career rooted in Asia’s fast-evolving strategic landscape.
“The SMIB program’s academic excellence, hands-on curriculum, and strong alumni network made it the perfect next step for me. I wanted to sharpen my strategy skills in a region that’s shaping the future of global business.”
Building Strategy Where It Matters
Pauline chose the Strategy Consulting track at the ESSEC APAC campus—an intentional decision grounded in her desire to deepen her roots in Asia. With courses like Strategic Consulting in Asia and Valuation and M&A, as well as access to the seven-month Asian Strategy Challenge (ASC), the program gave her a chance to connect classroom theory with real business impact.
“The ASC is a unique opportunity. We work as consultants on real company projects right here in Singapore, with academic support but full autonomy. It’s been one of the most enriching experiences of the program so far.”
Beyond the ASC, Pauline also participated in the cohort-wide study trip to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Visiting companies and connecting with ESSEC alumni in the region offered a direct window into Southeast Asia’s business culture and economic momentum.
Strategy as a Creative, Data-Driven Discipline
At the core of Pauline’s career interests is a deep fascination with strategy as both an analytical and creative pursuit.
“Whether entering new markets, launching products, or navigating acquisitions, strategy sits at the center of business success. It requires you to synthesize insights across functions—from marketing and finance to operations—and turn them into a compelling story.”
For Pauline, this interest began early, but her professional experiences helped bring it to life. At Siemens Healthineers in Singapore, she worked in what she describes as an “internal consulting” role, supporting cross-functional initiatives across the APAC region. Later, as part of a capstone consulting project in the U.S., she built a go-to-market plan for a CPG brand’s expansion strategy—forecasting millions in potential revenue growth.
“Those early projects gave me confidence to dive deeper. I knew I wanted to work at the intersection of analysis, collaboration, and impact.”
Beyond the Classroom
Pauline doesn’t just lead in the boardroom—she also co-founded the ESSEC APAC Boxing Club, a student initiative that quickly became a hub for community, wellness, and resilience on campus. Blending her love for sport with her entrepreneurial mindset, she helped build the club from the ground up alongside two fellow SMIB students.
She’s also an active voice in the classroom and an engaged participant in regional events, immersing herself in the cultural and professional pulse of Singapore.
Advice for Future Students
To those considering the SMIB program, Pauline offers a confident endorsement—especially for those interested in consulting or international strategy.
“This program offers everything you need: academic rigor, practical application, and exposure to one of the world’s most dynamic markets. The diversity of the cohort and the collaborative spirit make it even more special. Embrace every opportunity, and don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone.”
