From Paris to Beijing to Singapore, ESSEC MSc in Marketing Management and Digital (MMD) student Marie Peng has always embraced education as a passport to discovery. With a background in global business and marketing, Marie’s academic journey reflects her commitment to learning across borders—driven by a passion for storytelling, brand identity, and the evolving world of luxury.

“I’ve always been curious about how luxury brands create emotional resonance—how they build desire through narrative, detail, and cultural relevance,” Marie shares.

A Dual-Degree Foundation with a Global Lens

Originally from France, Marie completed her undergraduate studies in the ESSEC Global Bachelor of Business Administration (GBBA) program. As part of that journey, she participated in the Future Leaders dual-degree program at Peking University, where she deepened her interest in Asia’s markets and cross-cultural dynamics.

“Studying in China was an eye-opening experience,” she says. “It shaped the global mindset I wanted to carry forward into my Master’s.”

That mindset led her to ESSEC’s MMD program at the Asia-Pacific campus in Singapore—a decision rooted in both professional ambition and a desire to remain engaged with the region.

Learning by Doing: Inside the MMD Experience

Marie was drawn to the MMD program for its strong hands-on focus, fully aligned with ESSEC’s learning-by-doing philosophy.

“From the L’Oréal Brandstorm competition to the Digital Marketing Challenge, we’ve been working on real case studies with real companies. It makes the learning much more dynamic and relevant.”

One of the highlights for her was the Luxury Deep Dive Week, an immersive experience that offered 360° industry exposure through sessions with experts from fashion, beauty, and high-end jewelry.

“It allowed us to understand not only the challenges facing each sector but also the common thread that unites them: the art of crafting meaning and value.”

She also cites the study trip to Hong Kong as an unforgettable moment.

“We gained insights into Asia’s evolving consumer landscape while also building incredible memories as a cohort. It reaffirmed my interest in the region’s fast-changing markets.”

A Career Fueled by Curiosity and Culture

Marie is especially drawn to the luxury industry’s blend of history, craftsmanship, and emotional branding.

“Luxury is about more than products. It’s about experiences, identity, and creating something timeless. I find it fascinating how Maisons adapt their heritage for new generations.”

Her goal is to grow within a global luxury brand, building a career that spans cultures, languages, and consumer behaviors.

“I want to stay open—exploring new markets and ideas while bringing a fresh, cross-cultural perspective. Whether I’m working in strategy, digital, or branding, I hope to always be learning and contributing to something meaningful.”

From Internships to Immersion

During her GBBA years, Marie gained experience both at a marketing agency and within luxury brands. She developed an appreciation for how each touchpoint contributes to the customer experience from retail and brand strategy to digital marketing,

“Working in a Maison really showed me how immersive the brand universe is. That’s what made me want to go deeper—especially from a digital and consumer behavior perspective.”

Her past work confirmed that she wanted to focus on the luxury industry while gaining practical, real-world exposure—making the ESSEC MMD program a natural next step.

Life in Singapore: A Space to Learn and Grow

Though Marie modestly admits she’s only joined the ESSEC Running Club a few times, she’s found many other ways to fully embrace her time in Singapore.

“The best part is the exposure—to people, cultures, and ways of thinking. Singapore offers a mix of tradition and innovation that mirrors the values of the luxury industry.”

Her advice to incoming students?

“Be curious and stay open. Go beyond the classroom—connect with people, explore the city, and embrace Southeast Asia’s diversity. It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity for both personal and professional development.”
