For French student Selim Friez, the journey from Paris to Singapore represented a bold step toward redefining his professional path. Selim chose to deepen his experience and broaden his perspective by joining ESSEC Asia-Pacific.

“I’ve always been passionate about finance, but I knew I wanted to explore beyond that. ESSEC offered the flexibility and international outlook I was looking for,” he shares.

Blending Luxury and Technology

Selim’s interest in the luxury industry made ESSEC a natural fit. With strong ties to global names like LVMH and frequent industry talks on campus, the school provided the perfect entry point into the luxury sector. But he also recognized the growing importance of data and innovation in shaping its future.

“That’s why I chose the Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship (TIE) track. Luxury brands will increasingly rely on AI and tech to stay ahead, and I want to be ready for that shift,” he explains.

The interdisciplinary nature of the program has allowed Selim to continue building on his finance expertise while branching into data science and strategic business management.

“The customization is one of the best parts. I’ve been able to create a path that reflects all my interests—from finance and fashion to innovation.”

A Strategic Vision for the Future

What fascinates Selim most about the luxury industry is its strategic depth.

“It’s a field where precision, innovation, and brand heritage intersect. That makes it a fast-paced and intellectually rewarding space,” he says.

With a personal love for fashion and design, Selim hopes to start his career in consulting, with a focus on luxury and strategy. Long-term, he envisions himself inside a luxury house, helping brands adapt to technological change and evolving consumer expectations.

“I want to combine analytical thinking with creativity and tech fluency—because that’s what the future of luxury demands.”

Lessons from the Journey

Selim’s academic and early professional experiences have motivated him to seek broader international exposure—something he’s embraced fully in Singapore.

“Living and studying in Asia has been one of the most enriching experiences of my life. The culture, the people, the opportunities to explore—it’s all added so much to my personal and academic growth.”

While he’s chosen to focus on academics during his time abroad, Selim has also made time to explore the region and soak in the experience.

“Every weekend is a new adventure, whether it’s trying local food, discovering a neighborhood, or simply walking by the water.”

Advice for Future Students

“If you’re considering starting your journey in Singapore—do it. The environment is vibrant, the course offerings are diverse, and the people you meet will open your world in so many ways.”
