A Strong Financial Foundation
For Daksh Madaan, finance was always more than just numbers—it was about understanding the intricate web of global markets. Originally from New Delhi, India, Daksh pursued his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Delhi, where he developed a strong foundation in accounting and business. To further enhance his expertise, he pursued the CFA certification, deepening his knowledge of financial markets and investment strategies.
His journey in finance, however, was just beginning.
Choosing ESSEC’s Master in Finance: A Strategic Decision
Daksh’s decision to join ESSEC’s Master in Finance (MiF) program in Singapore was the result of careful research and self-reflection.
“I was drawn to a program that not only provided technical and strategic training but also offered exposure to both Asian and European financial markets,” he shares. “ESSEC Asia-Pacific’s MiF program stood out due to its strong academic reputation, global networking opportunities, and a curriculum tailored to the evolving financial landscape.”
By speaking with alumni and industry professionals, Daksh was sure that ESSEC’s MiF program was the perfect fit to accelerate his career in corporate finance and investment banking.
A Multifaceted and Practical Learning Experience
One of the most valuable aspects of the ESSEC Asia-Pacific’s MiF program is its holistic approach to learning—one that seamlessly blends academic theory with real-world application. “The MiF program goes beyond theoretical learning. It blends technical skills with real-world applications, allowing us to develop a deep and practical understanding of finance,” Daksh shares.
This blend of academic rigor and industry relevance is further enriched by the faculty, many of whom are seasoned professionals in the field. “Learning from finance practitioners provides invaluable insights into industry trends, challenges, and best practices,” he explains.
Equally impactful has been the diversity within the student cohort. “Being surrounded by peers from different backgrounds and cultures has broadened my global perspective and fostered collaboration, which is essential in finance,” he adds.
This global, practical approach allowed Daksh to start with an internship at Deloitte in the Real Estate Audit & Assurance division, where he gained valuable exposure to financial operations. He then fully immersed himself in corporate finance through two investment banking internships—one in Singapore and another in Mumbai. From deal-making and financial modelling to sector-specific advisory work, these experiences helped solidify his career interest.
“The hybrid structure of the MiF program, which integrates rigorous academics with real-world experience, played a crucial role in shaping my aspirations,” he reflects. “It allowed me to explore different facets of finance, refine my interests, and make informed career decisions.”
Leading as a Student Ambassador
Daksh also plays an active role as a student ambassador. “When I joined ESSEC Asia-Pacific, I had a seamless onboarding experience, and I wanted to help others transition just as smoothly.”
His responsibilities include engaging with prospective students, addressing queries through online platforms like Unibuddy, and representing ESSEC at career fairs and networking events.
One of the key challenges he faced was managing inquiries from students across different backgrounds and regions. “Each candidate has unique concerns, so I had to adapt my approach to provide tailored responses. Over time, I developed confidence in handling diverse queries and ensuring that students feel informed and reassured.”
Through his role, Daksh has been able to give back to the ESSEC community while also refining his communication and leadership skills.
Advice for Future MiF Candidates
For prospective students considering the MiF program, Daksh shares three key pieces of advice:
- Leverage ESSEC’s Resources: “Engage with student ambassadors, attend online conferences, and reach out to the admissions team. These resources will help you gain clarity on the program and its career opportunities.”
- Be Authentic: “The application process is not just about credentials—it’s about showcasing your unique story, motivations, and strengths. Authenticity goes a long way.”
- Have Confidence in Your Abilities: “Every experience, no matter how small, adds value to your journey. Highlight your achievements and believe in what you bring to the table.”
A Future of Opportunities
As Daksh looks ahead to his next steps in finance, he reflects on his journey with a sense of accomplishment and ambition. “The MiF program at ESSEC has provided me with the skills, network, and international exposure needed to succeed in finance,” he shares.
With a solid foundation in corporate finance and meaningful hands-on experience, Daksh is well-prepared to launch his career in investment banking where he hopes to sharpen his financial acumen and gain robust transaction experience. Over time, he plans to transition into Private Equity, focusing on sectors such as Infrastructure and Technology.
Ultimately, Daksh aspires to establish his own investment firm within the next decade. “By then, I hope to have gained expertise on both the sell-side and buy-side, enabling me to lead an independent investment platform focused on high-potential opportunities.”
Beyond personal goals, his vision includes contributing to the evolution of the financial industry by fostering cross-border transactions, developing innovative investment strategies, and improving capital efficiency across the APAC region. For Daksh, ESSEC is not just a stepping stone—it’s a launchpad for a meaningful and impactful career in global finance.
